Scruff’s Top 5

This past weekend has taught me that being early can never be the wrong decision. We received quite a bit of snow over the weekend, bad weather and driving in it is one thing that should be avoided at all cost. I knew that we were expected to start snowfall late in the afternoon so I left home a few hours early to beat the storm. After arriving to the Firehouse and setting up, the owner came up to me and thanked me for actually making it to play. I don’t cancel and if I had to I would have called, this just tells me that he’s had that happen to him before. That’s not a good feeling, not knowing if your hired entertainment is going to show. In all my years of DJing I have learned that communication goes a long way. A simple phone call can determine whether or not you reschedule, or you are asked not to return. In this business there is always someone out there looking for the opportunity that you have been given. I don’t plan on ruining my business relationships just because I never picked up the phone. For me it’s an honor to play for crowds of people, engage and grow a fanbase. The best way of showing my gratitude is by being on time, being well prepared, and doing all that I can to make sure the customers are having a good time.

After a weekend at the Firehouse, I was ready to relax. Sunday I researched some music and started another track, I wanted to get a head start on the upcoming week. I have some things planned for next weekend and that doesn’t leave me with a lot of time to finish up my daily responsibilities, so doing a little bit each day instead of procrastinating is the only way to accomplish all that I need to. My mentor has told me that Miami Music Week is where all the producers and DJ’s showcase their new work. He wants me to have tracks ready for the world to see. So over the next few weeks i’ll be buckling down and getting some work done. I know my plan was to have two tracks done a month, but i’m going to have to push it, I want to have 5 tracks to share by mid March. I’m not sure if it is possible, but i’m going to do all that I can to try and make it a reality. Getting up at 5 has been a success so far this week and though it’s only Monday, You have to start with 1 before you can get to 100. That’s the one habit that I hope to incorporate into my life. I’ve read that many of the top CEO’s and most productive people start their days between 4-6am. It gives them time for personal tasks before starting the work day, I do believe that this is necessary to keep going on any journey. I don’t want to lose who I am to anything, instead I want who I am to be perceived in all that I do. Getting up earlier will allow me to do this. Without sounding like a broken record, I can say though it’s only day one of this week I can see the difference in what I have accomplished today. The goal is to get up early 5 days out of 7. This is going to be a hard task, but I will succeed, I will prosper, and I do believe that I can conquer this and live the best life I can.
