Scruff’s Top 5

Well hello there world, today I will be discussing Jealousy. Yeah, the thing that turns people green, the sour grape in a bowl of sweet delicious fruit. Do we all get jealous, of course. The misconception of being jealous is that it’s a very bad emotion to have. Most people feel that being jealous is the start of a very slippery dive down into a no fly zone. I embrace it. I will admit I am jealous of a lot of things that I see around me, especially when it comes to DJing. I see a lot of my friends doing things that, are not only amazing, but just overall an enhancing experience in the scene. My patience is thin, as is many people. I want things to come overnight and when I see the progress of my peers, who are not only younger, but, also have been DJing for a shorter amount of time I am very jealous. I could use that jealous tendency to do harm, which is where that slippery slope comes in, or I can use that jealous energy to motivate myself and try to excel. Acknowledging that I am jealous allows me to prioritize the energy to do what I have set out to do and not let the accomplishments of others tear me down. It’s like a lil game that I play of catch up, I am now chasing the goals of my DJ friends. This isn’t a bad thing, I am now striving to get those shows, and perform at those venues, not entirely because they have done so, but because I feel like I deserve it. Since i’m not at the same place, I have to question why. I find myself questioning my location, social status, and skill. The truth is those are all distractions, continue to harness your craft, keep your eye on the prize and enjoy the ride. Being jealous doesn’t have to be a “sin”, it can def be a blessing depending upon how you use it.
